Michael TAnnies and the Fastest Hattrick in Bundesliga History...

Mario Gomez won a six second hattrick against Wolfsburg in the DFB Pokal semifinal, an incredible feat considering he had only 6 touches on the ball in his 10 minutes on the message. AItas hard to trust but there clearly was really a Bayern player who won a hattrick also quicker in the Cup, namely Carsten Jancker who achieved it in five minutes in 1997 against amateur clubADJK Waldberg. The fastest Bundesliga hatrick ever, though, belongs to MSV Duisburgas Michael TAnnies. AThe former striker accomplished that feat on August 27 during the 1991/92 time. ADuisburgas competitors on that day was Karlsruher SC who included a Oliver Kahn in target. KSC were without Mehmet Scholl on the afternoon but many still expected them to get some type of a result against 15th put Duisburg. ASuffice to express, few might have expected them to go down 3-0 in the room of just 5 minutes. Because of TAnnies though, thatas exactly what happened. He finished up scoring five goals because his five-minute hattrick and game has yet to be matched. Although KSC had the first chance of the fit Duisburg hit first 10 minutes in. AVladimir Liutyi, on mortgage from Schalke, sailed in an attractive cracked pass to an unmarked TAnnies who slotted the ball right under Kahn. Two minutes later it had been again Liutyi who played company when he submitted a cross that TAnnies acrobatically reached by turning way and finishing with a cycle stop into the far right corner. ATwo objectives in two minutes. ASurely he couldnat get a third? Well, he did. three minutes later Duisburg found its way past KSCas fullbacks and played the ball into place just as TAnnies pulled far from his marker to produce it three. AHistory was produced then and there with Kahn wondering how something such as that may have occurred. Though his record stood the test of time his life after basketball took a serious tragic turn for TAnnies. He started a restaurant just after he retired but started experiencing financial problems that led a job to be taken by him along with his fatheras cleaning business. AAll the while, his health began failing as a result of his steady smoking and alcohol abuse. ATAnnies was not only an enthusiastic smoker, but had a lethal habit, even admitting that he applied to smoke up to 80 cigarettes per day and despite doctoras instructions to quit he never brought himself to do so. Many years later he was clinically determined to have a fatal lung illness that put him on an oxygen reservoir without which body wouldnat pass precisely through his body. AAlmostAcompletelyAimmobilizedAand struggling with anxiety, TAnnies relied on a possible lung transplant surgery to boost. ALuckily after having a 13-year wait he was able to get it at a hospital in Hannover earlier this season and since has been feeling better. ADuisburg meanwhile have not neglected TAnnies and still drive out onto the field with banners in his service. ABefore his surgery they even arranged an advantage match to improve money for TAnnies, to which Bayern leader Uli Hoeness also provided 10,000 AEuros. However, TAnnies is and will be a Duisburg story. AHis league-leading 29 objectives in 1990/91 got Duisburg endorsed and he was also the top scorer in the next section on threeAoccasions. APrior compared to that he won the German amateur football tournament and twice the Oberliga Nordrhein (what now constitutes the next level of German football). AIn 171 activities for Duisburg, TAnnies obtained an amazing 101 but few are far more popular than that August evening. For the time being, enjoy one of Duisburgas best Bundesliga activities and a record which will forever live in the memories of German soccer supporters. Header courtesy ofAA Bongarts/GettyImages
