Theo Walcott offered the hosts the guide in the next minute as Arsenal ran out of the blocks but the Gunners were placed back at the end of the courtesy of a van Persie charge. Following a week's worth of speculation, van Persie started on his return to the Emirates while Lukas Podolski also made an unusual start as Arsenal's key striker with Olivier Giroud lacking with suspension. The Gunners got off to the great start in front of their red hot home support when Walcott beat the offside trap and calmly found a way past David p Gea from a tight angle within the next moment. Santi Cazorla then stung the arms of the United owner with an attempt from selection as Arsenal maintained their early momentum. Van Persie's first genuine involvement in the game was a miscued chance which sailed high over the bar Ajust after the 10 second mark, much to the delight of the Gunners' supporters. These supporters then collectively held their breath moments later when the Dutchman broke down the left flank before crossing for Phil Jones who didn't find the target with a header after racing into the field. Wenger's men lost a number of that early energy because the first half continued but were sparked back into life when Jonny Evans produced down Walcott just outside the area. The free kick was wasted but moments later Arsenal had a glorious chance to double its cause on the counterattack. Rosicky elected to pass to Podolski, as opposed to the unmarked Walcott, but the German can only fire his shot from the limited angle right at De Gea. Arsenal then had Wojciech Szczesny to thank for keeping it forward right before the break. The Poland global made himself big to help keep out van Persie's header from point-blank range after having a quick United counterattack. But moments later van Persie made no mistake, this time around from the spot, after Sagna's rash concern on the Dutchman gave United a fee. The Gunners made a brilliant start after the break and would have gone forward in early stages but Tomas Rosicky's prod with the outside of his boot whistled just at night De Gea's far post. Friend Alex's part quickly edged back in the contest and dictated the game for a period of time of quarter-hour. Van Persie over-hit a low cross at night onrushing Antonio Valencia before Wayne Rooney wasted an excellent chance with a header straight atASzczesny from close range. Strategy rallied for successful in a end-to-end end to match with the visitors still a threat on the split but neither side could fashion the clear-cut chance needed to win the game. Cazorla got close with a strong right-footed chance that has been palmed away by De Gea with minutes left on the clock before a great opportunity was wasted by Ryan Giggs when found totally unmarked on the break by Rooney.
