The national champion of Spain, the Open delaware EspaAa is one of the earliest championships in tennis. Founded in 1912, its list of winners involves such luminaries as Seve Ballesteros, Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, Roberto de Vicenzo, and Padraig Harrington. Two Americans have won: Arnold Palmer (1975) and Jerry Heard (1974). The Spanish Open was one of many inaugural activities on the European Tour in 1972. The 2013 release is played at the Parador de El Saler, which last managed in 2001. The program is relatively brief, relying on Mediterranean winds to provide a defense of its pockets.
