But the Scot did confirm striker whose Old Trafford future is in doubt was hooked at West Ham for having a Rupert PLUS Villa challenge Benteke
Rooney wants to sign a contract extension, with his Old Trafford future uncertain and Paris Saint-Germain preparing to launch a £25million summer bid for him.
But United manager Ferguson brushed aside suggestions of a new deal for Rooney, who is about to enter the final two years of a current agreement that brings him £220,000-a-week.
Ferguson also turned the heat up on Rooney by revealing the striker was hauled off with 20 minutes left in United's 2-2 midweek draw at West Ham because he was playing so poorly.
"As far as taking him off on Wednesday, it was simple - he wasn't playing as well as Shinji Kagawa and we wanted to get that goal.
"There are so many games where Wayne has been better than most players, but on the night Shinji was playing so well.
Ferguson also played down PSG's interest in Rooney, despite former advisor Michel Moulin claiming a deal to take the England striker to the French capital "is done".
United can clinch the title on Monday with victory at home to Aston Villa, if Manchester City lose at Tottenham on Sunday.
Ferguson praised his squad's strength of character, and said: "The last two away games have shown how determined we are to win it.
"I've admired my team in the last two games, at Stoke and West Ham, because you're dealing with the type of football that's difficult to handle."
Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert wants Christian Benteke to prove he is not a "one-season wonder", writes James Nursey.
Striker Benteke has smashed 19 goals in a stunning debut season in English football, following an £8.5million move from Belgian side Genk last summer.
The Scot said: "What bothers me is what he does for the football club. His form has dictated that people have nominated him. But I just don't want him to be a one-season wonder.
