Bay Pointe Tennis ClubWest Bloomfield, Michigan Grade: B+Teacheras Comments: Fine circumstances, a lot of water, a little dear for SE Michigan In a oft-repeated tale in Michigan, Bay Pointe is just a former country club now open to everyone. Their loss is the publicas get. Bay Pointe is a well-kept, fun program thatas worth a trip from anywhere in SE Michigan. Iave played the course on a couple of occasion: the first, with an everyday group; the second at an aouting.a It had been fun both times. Full disclosure. The top tennis pro is the father of a student of mine. And a few my most useful golf friends practically live on the course. They have only good things to express about it. Bay Pointe days to 1985, and was created by Ernie Fuller. The Links of Pinewood in Walled Lake, Michigan, was still another Fuller style. That shut in 2008. Fuller also created the Edgewood Country Club in Oakland County. Bay Pointe has two sets of tees. The Gold, which assess 6,231 yards, plays to a 70.1/122. The Silver come up dramatically faster at 4,906 and represents to a 64.4/103. In any manner it is sliced by you, this can be a short course. Thus, it might perhaps not be appropriate for many players. The main challenge of Bay Pointe may be the water.A By my count, there's water on fourteen pockets. The most lovely pockets on the class follow the shores of Lower and Middle Straits Lakes. Wett material is honestly everywhere, and a wayward ball probably will die in a watery grave. Mud, on another hand, is not a problem. There are perhaps a dozen traps on the entire program. Conditions on the times I enjoyed were outstanding. Greens and tee containers were in top condition, as were the fairways. I think the quality of the fairways is a bit surprising, given the level of surrounding water and the reduced lying areas. Certainly, I am certain that elements of the class are below lake level. That the superintendent is able to keep all of it from being waterlogged is amazing. Bay Pointe is run by Oak Management, which also handles the excellent Lyon Oaks. That likely has a lot to do with it. The courseas topography is open and relatively flat. Fairways often be broad, and except where water intends aren't prone to exceptionally punish slightly careless shots. The holes are close together. But there a LOT of water holes. My favorite gap was the eleventh, a property par 5 with a dogleg left at concerning the place the place where a tee shot would land. From there, the second chance would be to a tiny form. From there, it's downhill to a green buried to the left of 1 of the numerous water hazards. Costs are at top of the range for SE Michigan. Itas $59 on weekends with cart, and $44 on weekdays. There is no cost differential between basket use and walking. The underside line for Bay Pointe is that it's very well kept, and fun, but small by todayas standards. Bogey golfers wonat head the shorter course, but large hitters might be unhappy.
